Welcome to The Princess Rancher

I couldn't wait to have my first horse, but when my dream finally became a reality, it quickly turned into a nightmare! Beginning my horse journey in my early 40s meant it was even more important to have the right horse. I needed a broke, easy horse that would take care of me while I learned to ride. That didn't happen. The trainer passed Cody off as a broke horse much further along in his training than he was and took me to the cleaners to boot!
Green on green makes black and blue as they say in the horse business. I have made about every mistake there is when it comes to horses, but I have learned my lessons and I am here to help you avoid making the same mistakes I did.

Cowgirls helping Cowgirls!

Goals are Dreams with a plan!

I wasn't born into ranching. Before I ever learned to ride a horse, my life was one of globe-trotting and high comfort as a national food distributor. But the messiness of life set me off on a new path that would lead to open spaces, tangles of barbed wire, and the sweat, dust, and tears of cattle ranching.
Through it all one thing remained constant, my love of food and my memoir serves as an ode to the ages-old tradition of the men and women who toil from sun-up to sun-down to put beef on our dinner tables.

My story is about risk, reward, and reinvention that captures a disappearing American Way of Life!

Testimonials

Wow, great story especially from a woman's point of view. I never realized the "process in raising cattle", and all the things, good and bad, in getting them to market. The story is informative, sad, funny, and courageous, especially as she made the transition from "Princess" to "Rancher" It is an easy read, and I didn't want it to end. I hope there will be a continuation of Kelly's story. I am following her blog which is that.

Women Rule!
Kudos to Kelly for having the courage to tackle this incredibly fickle industry! I have long fantasized about getting into the agricultural business but had brushed it aside as just a pipe dream. After reading Kelly's book...I just might reconsider.
